ECGI APPOINTS 6 NEW FELLOWS

Brussels, 30 September 2003. The European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) today announces the appointment of six new Fellows of the Institute drawn from academia in Europe and North America. They augment the 21 inaugural Fellows who were nominated last year, bringing the number of ECGI Fellows to 27.

The new Fellows are:

  • Professor John C. Coffee Jr, Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law, Columbia Law School
  • Professor Ronald J. Gilson, Charles J. Meyers Professor of Law and Business,
    Stanford Law School
  • Professor Steven N. Kaplan, Neubauer Family Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business
  • Professor Raghuram G. Rajan, Joseph L. Gidwitz Professor of Finance, University of Chicago
  • Professor Ernst-Ludwig von Thadden, Professor of Economics, Département d'Econométrie et Economie Politique, University of Lausanne
  • Professor Eddy Wymeersch, Professor of Commercial Law, University of Ghent
These Fellows were nominated by the ECGI's Fellowship Committee chaired by Professor Bengt Holmström, Paul A Samuelson Professor of Economics, Department of Economics and Sloan School of Management, MIT.

The ECGI, which was founded in 2002, is an international scientific non-profit association. It provides a forum for debate and dialogue between academics, legislators and practitioners, focusing on major corporate governance issues and thereby promoting best practice.

Its primary role is to undertake and disseminate impartial and objective research on corporate governance and undertake any other activity that will improve understanding and exercise of the highest standards in corporate governance. ECGI Fellows provide intellectual leadership and inspiration for the Institute as it seeks to achieve its aims.
